  44. Ski Smarts is the first comprehensive multimedia
  45. skiing instruction title for Windows, available on
  46. CD-ROM and Diskette. The versions are identical,
  47. except that the CD-ROM version adds high quality video
  48. for every exercise, etc.

  50. At their own pace, users can now interactively learn
  51. the way professionals teach and discover secrets only
  52. expert instructors know. Common problems experienced
  53. by all skiers are extensively covered.

  55. Developed for electronic media from scratch, including
  56. all text and videos, Ski Smarts sets a new standard
  57. for sports instruction -- in any format. Full text for
  58. hundreds of exercises can be printed. Most sports have
  59. an instructional "bible" of some sorts and now skiing
  60. has its own.

  62. Ski Smarts concentrates on ski instruction and is
  63. comprehensive in that respect -- an entire ski
  64. instruction manual on disk for beginner, intermediate
  65. and expert skiers. Moguls, ice, powder, crud, steeps
  66. and racing are also covered in depth. Hundreds of
  67. exercises complete with descriptions, graphics and
  68. videos are systematically presented based on the ability
  69. of the user.

  71. A remarkably intuitive interface, centered around a
  72. unique "Jump" screen, gives users the opportunity to
  73. select his or her ability upon entry and receive
  74. personalized, self paced instruction. Random jumps to
  75. other levels can easily be done. Upon reentry to the Ski
  76. Smarts, the user can automatically jump back to the last
  77. exercise.

  103. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  104. To run Ski Smarts you need:
  105.  
  106. * Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher.
  107. * A Windows-compatible computer with a 20MHz - 80386 SX
  108.   processor or higher. (80386 or higher for Multimedia version)
  109. * A Windows-compatible mouse or other pointing device.
  110. * A 1.44MB (3.5-inch) disk drive. (Contact Sport Smarts to
  111.   special order other formats)
  112. * A hard disk with at least 8MB of free disk space.
  113. * At least 4 MB of random-access memory (RAM) -- 8MB or
  114.   more recommended. (6MB for Multimedia version -- 8MB
  115.   or more recommended)
  116. * A graphics adapter card displaying at least 256 colors
  117.   (65K preferred -- VGA, SuperVGA, or other Windows-compatible)
  118.  
  119. For the Multimedia version edition add or change the following:
  120. * A Windows-compatible computer with a 20MHz - 80386 (slow)
  121.   processor or higher (486 recommended.)
  122. * At least 6 MB of random-access memory (RAM) -- 8MB or
  123.   more recommended.
  124. * Double speed CD-ROM drive
  125. * A Media Control Interface (MCI)-compatible sound card.
  126. * Microsoft Video for Windows 1.1

  129. INSTALLATION  (Choose one of three below)

  131. A. If you received or downloaded ZIP files:
  132.  
  133.     1. Create a new directory on your hard drive and copy files    
  134.        SKI1.ZIP and SKI2.ZIP into the new directory.
  135.  
  136.     2. Unzip SKI1.ZIP and SKI2.ZIP in the new directory.
  137.  
  138.     3. In Windows, select File from the Program Manager             
  139.        menu and choose Run.
  140.  
  141.     4. Browse to find SETUP.EXE in the new directory -- select
  142.        SETUP.EXE and click "OK".
  143.  
  144.     5. Again click "OK" to run SETUP.EXE.
  145.     
  146.     6. Follow the instructions that appear onscreen.
  147.         Only choose custom installation if you need to reinstall
  148.         components deleted or damaged. All the components
  149.         offered in custom installation are needed by Ski Smarts
  150.         to run properly.

  152.     7. After installation is complete, restart Windows.

  154. B. If you downloaded EXE files directly onto your hard disk:
  155.  
  156.     1. Create a new directory on your hard drive and copy files    
  157.        SKIDEMO.001, SKIDEMO.002, SETUP.EXE and SKIDEMO.INF
  158.        into the new directory.

  160.     2. In Windows, select File from the Program Manager             
  161.        menu and choose Run.
  162.  
  163.     3. Browse to find SETUP.EXE in the new directory -- select
  164.        SETUP.EXE and click "OK".
  165.  
  166.     4. Again click "OK" to run SETUP.EXE.
  167.     
  168.     5. Follow the instructions that appear onscreen.
  169.         Only choose custom installation if you need to reinstall

  183.     3. Browse to find SETUP.EXE on your diskette drive -- select
  184.        SETUP.EXE and click "OK".

  186.     4. Again click "OK" to run SETUP.EXE.

  188.     5. Follow the instructions that appear onscreen.
  189.         Only choose custom installation if you need to reinstall
  190.         components deleted or damaged. All the components
  191.         offered in custom installation are needed by Ski Smarts

  196. As Ski Smarts is installed, a Sport Smarts group is created in
  197. the Windows Program Manager. A Ski Smarts directory is also
  198. created on your hard disk with subdirectories containing program
  199. files, clip art, graphics, color palette files and for the
  200. Multimedia edition, video and sound files.
  201.  
  202. TROUBLE SHOOTING
  203. If you are having trouble installing Ski Smarts, make sure that
  204. the following requirements are met:
  205.  
  206. * You must install Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Video for
  207.   Windows 1.1 before installing Ski Smarts.
  208. * You must run SETUP.EXE from within Windows.
  209. * Ensure that during installation all the components were
  210.    installed -- during custom installation some components may
  211.    inadvertently have been left off.
  212.  
  213. TO START SKI SMARTS
  214. From the Windows Program Manager:
  215.  
  216. * Double-click the Ski Smarts icon: in the Sport         
  217.  Smarts group, or
  218. * double-click skidemo.exe in File Manager.
  219.  
  220. TO QUIT SKI SMARTS:
  221. * Click on the "EXIT"  button in Ski Smarts and
  222.   make your selections. Choose "Save current changes" if you
  223.   entered text in "Personal notes" and would like to save it.

  232. shareware that requires a registration fee to the author if used
  233. beyond the evaluation stage.
